Frequently Asked...
Won't their droppings just replant seeds?
Great question! When seeds enter the goat's digestive tract, the seeds are broken down and become sterile. Re-germination from droppings is very minimal. In addition, these goats eat through potentially dangerous biomass that could feed wildfires.
Let's talk about erosion.Herd type grazing comprises nearly 20-80 goats in one area, at one time (pending project size). Erosion can happen if goats are left in one area for too long. Working with property owners, we'll provide ample time to clear each section in rotational-style grazing to assure the most efficient way to clear tough project areas. We'll assess the area and our daily crew will check/move fencing from spot to spot.
Repeat grazings may be the solution to reaching the goals of the customer. What type of fencing is used?Low voltage electric netting and solar power. Even if a fence is knocked down or falls over, the goats respect the fencing. The safety of the animals is of utmost importance and that includes keeping predators from getting into the area as well as keeping our team within the fencing.
We also bring water troughs and necessary feed/mineral supplements as well as supervise the animals during their stay. No customer preparation or 'chores' are necessary! |
So, what's it going to cost?
Each site differs in vegetation density and complexity. Providing a hard and fast rate cannot suffice. Our rates are considerably lower in local areas, and can be lower still for large projects 5+ acres.
